TALK ABOUT PAGEANTS
Everything you NEED to know about voice, movement and interviewing if you
want to WIN!
__________________________________________________________________
This is the pageant place, for speaking!
First let me tell you something...I can make you delicious...delicious
voice, delicious movements, delicious interview answer. I'm not a
former pageant contestant but I have worked with lots and lots of
pageant contestants on their voice, movement and interview skills. I
am a communication specialist and actor trainer.
So, if you want to be delicious, you know the person that everyone
wants to be like, to be near, to be with, then you are in the right
place.
What does this have anything to do with pageants you ask? Well, there
are lots and lots of girls and dresses and coaches BUT, the one thing
that I can help you do, no I can guarantee you is that I can teach you
how to set yourself apart, how to set yourself above the rest, simply
by doing some great stuff with your voice and your
movements/gestures/face and nailing your interview. That is what this
site is about, everything communications, both casual conversation and
formal speaking...both of which you MUST be able to execute with
brilliance if you want to wear the crown. The work I do is similar to
the work I do with actors, who HAVE to one step ahead, one step better
than all the hundreds of girls that look just like them sitting in the
audition room. What sets them apart? What sets you apart? Your very
pretty, you have a great dress and a superb talent...so what...lots of
girls in the room have all of that and more.
So, what is it that they don't have? They don't have a delicious voice
and a delicious set of movements and they have not prepared to nail the
interview like I'm going to train you to prepare.
First, what is delicious...delicious is two parts voice and movement
and then the interview component stands on it's own.
Voice is comprised of what you do with your voice when speaking, not
singing.
Movement is comprised of mainly gestures, but also posture, facial
expressions and eyes.
Now, let's start with voice. You need a voice that stands apart, is
better than the other voices. So you have to work on and master a
number of components including:
Correct Breathing
Elongation
Operative words
The big 3 which are pitch/volume/speed
and more...
With movement you must have a country club gesture base, proper
posture, non indicating facial movements and expressions and eyes that
tell a story.
(More on Movement later)
So first I want to tell you a little bit about what your not
doing...your not breathing properly...NO, trust me you are not. 98
percent of the people in the world don't breath at all much less
properly. There is great value to breathing properly but it is
ESSENTIAL if you are an actor, a speaker, a pageant girl and certain
other roles.
If you are a trained singer you have probably been trained to breath
through your diaphram, which is good, that's better than what everyone
else does but still, not right. But, what everyone else does is lung
breath and by that I'm talking shallow breathing, little bits of air
that are taken into the lungs and released. The chest raises up and
down when you breath this way. I can almost guarantee that you are
breathing this way, why, because you have been trained and coached and
had it ingrained into you that you need to hold in your stomach. And,
it's not just the beauty pageant world that trains that, it's society
telling that to all women. If you are sucking in your stomach, YOU CAN
NOT breathe properly. You have to learn rib expansion breathing. It
is essential to get a wonderfully interesting voice but it is also
essential in your field to calm nerves, nail an interview and keep your
chest from heaving up and down.
So, as you begin to wrap your mind around this idea I want you to
understand that in order to learn to breath properly you are going to
have to learn what it feels like to breath properly. At first, the
only way that you will be able to do this is by lying down, like on
your bed or the floor. That is what I want you to do first, just lie
on the floor or the bed and feel what it feels like. You should be
able to feel your lungs moving in and out, your rib cage expanding.
That is what it feels like to breath properly. That is what we are
going for here. You cannot breath wrong when you are lying down, it is
not humanly possible. So for now, just spend time learning what it
feels like to breath properly.
